ADVENT, a word with Latin roots, means "coming."   Advent designates a period before Christmas when Christians prepare for the celebration of Jesus' birth.   This practice began in the church over sixteen hundred years ago! Sermons focused on the wonder of the Incarnation. By the Middle Ages four Sundays had become the standard length of the Advent season. Advent is considered the beginning of the church year.   This Sunday, we join churches around the world to begin the season of Advent.   Here are our Advent themes:   December 3               Hope December 10             Love December 17             Joy December 24             Peace These themes will prepare us for a Jesus-centered Christmas! If you want to volunteer, we still have time slots available for volunteers to receive gift boxes as they're dropped off.  Let us know if you can help.         Thanksgiving Blessing    Saturday, November 18 is our Thanksgiving Blessing! Our goal is to give away 185 fresh turkeys and all the ingredients for a family Thanksgiving meal for local families. Your gift of $25 will completely fund Thanksgiving dinner for someone who...
