Tonight (August 20) I am starting my Wednesday Christian Growth class that corresponds with the Awana schedule. The class starts at 6:30 p.m., which gives those with kids plenty of time to check their kids in for Awana's 6:00 p.m. start, and grab a cup of coffee in the lobby before our class starts. This staggered schedule also allows volunteers to be "listeners" for Awana from 6:00 - 6:30 p.m., and still participate in my class. The Christian Growth class  is an exciting hour for me, as I love the discussion that happens around Biblical concepts. Most weeks, we follow an outline from Wayne Grudem's Systematic Theology book. However, you never know what subject will pop up each time, as issues related to social life in America, events in modern Israel, theological traditions and church history often dominate our discussion. If you want to grow, this class is for you....

A wedding ring is an outward sign that a person is married. A military uniform is an outward sign that a person is involved in that particular branch of service. Similarly, water baptism is a symbol designed by God to identify a person as a disciple of Jesus. We are going to celebrate at CIL water baptism on Sunday, August 3. Jesus revealed that water baptism was necessary to "fulfill all righteousness (Mt. 3:15)." This doesn't mean water baptism saves us, but if we refuse to be baptized in water their is something incomplete in our walk with Christ. Water baptism is an act that God requires of every believer.   You never read of an un-baptized Christian anywhere in the Bible. In fact, baptism immediately followed a person's salvation. They didn't see it as something to be delayed or put off. Ultimately, it all goes back to Jesus' statement in John 14:15. "If you love me, keep my commandments." If...
